Roads
In roads, traffic detector wire loops are used to detect the presence of vehicles to trigger a gate, barrier or traffic light. They are installed in grooves cut into the surface, which are exposed to various environmental and mechanical stresses such as water, temperature fluctuations, heavy traffic loads, and road debris. Sealants play an essential role by securing and protecting the embedded wires and ensuring the long-term functionality of the system.
Our Q-Seal™ 290S & Q-Seal™ 295M polyurethane sealants have been developed as a protective seal for traffic detector wire loops, providing long-lasting protection against water, chemicals, and abrasion. The fast curing systems also help to minimize road closure times.
The sealants are effective for filling and sealing saw cuts and cracks, ensuring surfaces are well-maintained. Our Q-Seal™ 295-P606 has been specifically formulated for the installation of runway lights. It provides a weather and chemical-resistant waterproof seal for runway lighting where an FAA P-606 material is required. The sealant maintains electrical integrity and safety and is resistant to high loads and environmental stress, helping to protect electrical components and lighting fixtures from damage.
The sealant is also formulated as a crack sealer, helping make vehicle and plane safety a reality by ensuring the surface is well-maintained. Runways are subjected to extreme loads from aircraft, weather fluctuations, and environmental factors. The sealant prevents deterioration by sealing against water and debris. Its flexible formulation accommodates future movement.
Polyurethane (PU) Sealants
Unlike other competitors, H.B. Fuller has designed polyurethane solutions to meet both runway and road sealant needs. Polyurethane was chosen over epoxies or polyesters, which can emit dangerous carcinogens. Our polyurethane products are softer, less brittle, and allow for more elongation. And, unlike other products that must be transported by ground or sea due to its chemical nature, our product may be flown on airplanes.
