Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives (MMA)
Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives, also known as MMAs, are structural adhesives that have been developed to bond metals, plastics, and composites.
MMAs can provide an alternative to traditional joining methods, such as screwing, riveting or welding. The hardening of MMAs is based on a polymerization reaction that is triggered by a reactive radical – usually peroxide.
H.B. Fuller’s MMAs offer a less exothermic cure, which minimizes the risk of potential cracking in the substrates, especially with plastic joints.
H.B. Fuller MMAs also do not consist of toxic peroxides or toxic accelerators. Additionally, our MMAs with a 1:1 mix ratio also are free of methacrylic acids.
Our range of MMAs delivers high-strength bonding across a wide variety of material combinations, including the ability to bond two or more of the same, similar and dissimilar substrates.
Benefits:
- Special grade to bond PE/PP without pretreatment available
- Formulation without toxic accelerator system
- For the majority of substrates, no primer required
- Even and complete polymerization, even between thicker layers
- Good chemical resistance
- Good strength performance at a wide temperature range (-40 °C to 120 °C)
- Good elongation and peeling properties
