At H.B. Fuller, we are deeply committed to making a positive difference in our communities. For the 13th year in a row, we demonstrated this commitment to service through Make a Difference month.
More than 25 facilities around the world participated in Make a Difference projects, with 700 employees volunteering their time in support of 45 projects. Employees selected projects that connected with causes they are passionate about and addressed local community needs. This year’s Make a Difference projects included testing a GPS mapping app to support people with visual impairment, creating safe spaces for children to play and learn, clearing litter from natural areas, and introducing teens to careers in technology.
Each year, employees vote on a Make a Difference Project of the Year, and this year the meaningful activities in Michigan Center, Michigan, USA, were selected as the 2021 Make a Difference Project of the Year.
Organizers in Michigan Center offered two projects to make activities accessible to those working shifts or who may have less flexibility with their time.
Events began with 36 employees volunteering throughout the day, cutting and tying fabric to make more than 50 blankets, which were donated to a local care home.
The second project brought employees to a local care facility to engage with residents, many of whom have been without visitors for months due to COVID restrictions. Sales representatives from a neighboring state joined employees from Michigan Center to host an “Oktoberfest” at the St. Louis Center. More than 50 residents were served dinner, created fall-themed crafts, played games, and received goodie bags to commemorate their time together. The activities brought great joy to the residents and volunteers, and provided a brief respite for caregivers as well.
Organizer Jennie Prater shared, “We all had so much fun, and we couldn’t stop smiling. Residents commented we were the best, and we’re already making plans for our next visit.”
We are proud of the inspiring work done by our employees, who bring to life our commitment to giving back, and H.B. Fuller is proud to honor our 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Project with a donation to St. Louis Center in recognition of our employees’ service and to further the great work of this nonprofit.
